A character can be public enough to chat with while its writing notes remain hidden. It can also be absent from search yet accessible to anyone holding a link. Before choosing Doki Chat or SpicyChat, decide which of those arrangements your story actually needs.
Here, Doki Chat means the platform at dokichat.club. Its creation form exposes Public and Private character settings. SpicyChat’s visibility documentation describes three audience choices and a separate control for the definition. That additional distinction matters for a small reading group.
Three different audiences
Consider an original fictional adult: Mara, a 41-year-old museum projectionist preparing a screening. You want to rehearse the opening alone, then ask three friends whether the situation is understandable, and eventually invite strangers.
| Stage | What you need | What the documentation supports |
|---|---|---|
| Solo rehearsal | Only the creator uses the character | Both describe a private character route |
| Feedback from friends | A shareable route outside the public directory | SpicyChat documents Unlisted; Dokichat’s inspected form shows Public and Private |
| Public release | Other readers can discover and begin a chat | Public access is available, subject to each platform’s publication rules |
This is a control comparison, not evidence that either service can import the other’s character. Keep your original brief outside either account so a change of platform does not require reconstructing it from memory.
A link is a distribution method
SpicyChat says an Unlisted character stays out of search and public listings while remaining accessible to anyone with its link. A friend can forward that link. Use this route for a draft you are comfortable circulating beyond the intended three people.
If the draft contains an unpublished twist, put only the necessary opening information in the shareable version. A feedback question can be narrow: “Did you understand why the projector stopped?” Readers do not need every future plot point to answer it.
Do not label a Dokichat public character “unlisted” just because you have not seen it in search. An interface choice and an observed search result are different evidence.
Hiding the blueprint
SpicyChat separately documents Definition Visibility for personality, example dialogue and scenario details. A public character with a private definition is still a public character: people can use it even when those design notes are hidden.
For the projectionist, public-facing material could explain the interrupted screening and invite a choice between inspecting the film and checking the equipment. The definition can describe Mara’s patient manner and tendency to explain mechanical problems plainly. Those pieces serve different audiences.
Neither setting establishes exclusive ownership, prevents people paraphrasing an interaction or guarantees that a story idea will remain confidential.
What happens after release
Dokichat’s form warns that deleting a character does not remove the chat histories of people who already used it. Its privacy policy also describes processing and retention exceptions. SpicyChat explicitly states that moderators can see hidden characters.
Choose Private for a solo draft. Choose a documented link-only route when controlled discovery is enough and onward sharing is acceptable. Choose Public when you have prepared the work for an audience and accepted that releasing a character is not equivalent to lending a single recoverable document.
